A rare Percussion half stocked American Plains long-rifle or Kentucky rifle, circa 1845-1855. Back action lock with decoration to the lock plate. The lock plate also engraved Davidson & Co. CINCINNATI. The barrel engraved on top with letters W.C. in a panel. Probably the original owner's initials. Double set triggers. Calibre approx .36. Complete with its original correct brass tipped wooden ramrod. Two brass ramrod pipes mounted to the underside of barrel. The barrel inset on top with a buck-horn rear sight and bead white metal foresight, the wooden stock fitted with a pewter fore-end cap. Scrolling brass trigger guard. Overall length approx 50 inches. Barrel length 35 inches. The stock fitted with a crescent shaped brass butt-plate. Davidson & Co. are listed as working in the town of Tyler, Cincinnati circa 1845-1860. This rifle is in good overall condition. The action works fine. A very scarce item, showing minor signs of wear and genuine use. Ref 9157.
